Exploring Sustainable Innovations in Turkana County

Verst Carbon and GreenMax teams embarked on an insightful journey to Lodwar, Turkana County. This visit is part of our ongoing research study with CLASP, aiming to scale the use of Productive Use Appliances (PUAs) through Carbon Credit Financing—a key focus of our work with GreenMax.

Our visit to Longech, a hub of sustainable cold chain innovation, was nothing short of inspiring. At Lake Turkana, a crucial fishing hub, we witnessed the incredible impact of Adili Solar Hubs Limited, which empowers local fishermen with solar-powered refrigerators, freezers, and walk-in cold rooms for fish storage.

These innovations are reducing spoilage and waste, transforming livelihoods across the region. We also had the privilege of seeing how Kimani Gichuche is addressing community needs with clean water solutions through solar-powered desalination and a borehole at a local school. The visit continued to the Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement in Kakuma, where electrification is changing lives by enabling commercial and agricultural activities, fostering resilience and hope.

This eye-opening experience highlighted the untapped potential of carbon credit financing in scaling these productive use technologies, which not only improve lives but also drive environmental sustainability. Thank you to Adili Solar Hubs Limited and Kimani Gichuche for your inspiring work!
