dMRV(Digital Monitoring and Verification Tool) - Transforming cooking, transforming lives.

About dMRV

The Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) project focuses on digitizing the MRV process for clean cooking projects. It involves metering clean cooking devices, such as Electric Pressure Cookers (EPCs), and digitally recording usage data to calculate Emission Reductions Methodology.

Smart meters installed on EPCs transmit real-time data to a software platform, which handles emission reduction calculations, device analytics, and cooker management, streamlining the entire process for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.

The Problem

Emission reductions from clean cooking projects have often been overstated due to reliance on manual reporting of device usage, leading to a lack of transparency and accuracy. This challenge highlights the need for digitizing the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) process to ensure precise, real-time data collection and improve accountability in clean cooking initiatives.

The Solution

To address the issue of exaggerated emission reductions and lack of transparency in clean cooking projects, we have implemented a Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) solution. Our approach involves metering electric pressure cookers (EPCs) to capture real-time, granular data for each cooking event. This data is processed using the Gold Standard’s Metered Methodology to accurately calculate emission reductions. Additionally, our system allows for remote control of devices, including turning them on or off, which supports PayGo models and ensures better user accountability and operational efficiency. This solution provides complete transparency and precision in tracking device usage and emission reductions, significantly improving the integrity of clean cooking projects.

Impact Made So Far

Although still in its early stages, the digital MRV solution is already showing promise in transforming clean cooking projects by ensuring accurate, transparent emission reductions. By providing granular data on each cooking event and enabling remote device management, the project enhances accountability and operational efficiency.

This transparency is expected to attract more investors and build trust with stakeholders, laying a solid foundation for scaling the project. As the solution matures, it has the potential to significantly improve the effectiveness of carbon finance initiatives, while promoting widespread adoption of clean cooking technologies.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The digital MRV solution addresses several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by promoting the adoption of clean cooking technologies, SDG 13 (Climate Action) through accurate tracking and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by reducing reliance on harmful traditional cooking methods, thereby improving indoor air quality and public health outcomes.
